ABOUT US

WHD-MENA is the Middle East and North Africa division of World Humanitarian Drive (WHD), an International NGO with operations in 12 countries, founded in Croydon, U.K. by British Indian Global Peace activist, Entrepreneur, Writer, Dr Abdul Basit Syed.

The primary vision of WHD is to promote Peace, Education and Trade Harmony initiatives globally. WHD-MENA carries this mission across the MENA region.

WHD programs, events, and initiatives are focused especially on the upliftment of women, youth, the most vulnerable, and minority populations. In the MENA region, we work alongside local partners to advance these goals.

WHD has made considerable strides by collaborating with world leaders, governments, and organisations to promote Peace, Education, and Trade Harmony through global initiatives and humanitarian activities.

Our partnership organisation "Universal Peace Federation (UPF)" holds a General Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It is the highest status granted to a non-governmental organisation (NGO), which allows them to work with the United Nations.

ADVOCACY

WHD-MENA advocates for human rights, women’s empowerment, and childhood protection across the Middle East and North Africa. We work with local and international partners to advance policy, awareness, and concrete action in line with global humanitarian values and regional priorities.

The European Commission has proposed extending the EU’s interim regulation that allows online communication platforms to voluntarily detect and report child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The current framework, adopted as a temporary measure to allow limited monitoring despite EU e-privacy restrictions, is scheduled to expire in April 2026.

Brussels is seeking to prolong the regulation until April 2028 in order to avoid a legal gap while negotiations continue on a permanent EU legislative framework to combat online child sexual abuse. According to the Commission, the existing system has been instrumental in enabling platforms to identify abusive content, report cases to authorities, and support criminal investigations.

The committee was tasked with drafting and overseeing a national strategy designed to strengthen the protection of rights and freedoms across the Kingdom.
